Quilting Weather

After such a gorgeous day yesterday, I woke this morning to the sound of pouring rain and thunder. Admittedly it was already 9am but that's what days off are for. Perfect weather for lazing around, and for quilting!

Once I got all of my little jobs out of the way this morning, I hauled Hopscotch into the sewing machine and got started.

I must have been dilusional when I decided to quilt lines that close together; it's going to take ages! I'm doing five lines at a time, then taking a little break to give my shoulders a rest, especially the one I injured a few years ago.

But I'm loving how it looks! It will give the quilt quite a firm feel, so if you like a softer quilt I'd space the lines a bit further apart. Might be better for your sanity too...

Spring Garden

I love watching all the little things popping up in the garden at this time of year.

I especially love my rununculus.

And the lavender. The bees love it too.

My quince tree is flowering; there is nothing better than poached quinces over winter.

My berry canes are also flowering. You've got to be quick to beat the birds for these yummies!

Lots of new vegies planted too; I'm looking forward to eating several types of zucchini this year. Hopefully whatever critter ate my winter vegies will be gone by then....

And my Millie turned 12 on Sunday! She's definitely gone quite grey, but she is still a puppy at heart.

Mystery Bom Block 4

Breezy Afternoon by Aneela Hoey.

I love that she specified that the red rectangles should be cut in different directions to keep the pattern running in the same direction. I even went one step further and turned half my background squares to keep the dots in the same orientation. I blame being a Virgo for my inner perfectionist.

To Market...

Coming up this Sunday (September 23) is the Mulgrave Maker's Market. I haven't been in quite a while so I'm looking forward to being there and seeing everyone again. The market is on from 8am till 1pm at the Body Shop HQ on the corner of Wellington and Jacksons roads in Mulgrave. For more info on stallholders etc pop over here.

I've been prepped and ready for the market for a few weeks, but with all the other disasters going on and working a few different jobs, there hasn't been time for much else. I snuck in a little time today to get Hopscotch basted (after buying the batting two weeks ago!). As always I had my trusty assistant by my side. I'll be following Camille's example and quilting this one with some simple straight lines.

New Fabrics

So the good news here this week is that the insurance is going to cover the removal of our leaning carport, and replace it with a brand spanking new one.

I also got a lovely little delivery of some pretty new Moda Charm Packs:

Coquette by Chez Moi

Oh Deer! by MoMo.

I also have yardage of each of these lines in stock.

And lucky last, I've put the A Walk in the Woods Jelly Rolls on sale.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

My weekend was just a touch more exciting than even I anticipated. I was super-windy in Melbourne last week, and on Wednesday my carport suddenly developed quite a lean. Then when we got the next lot of wind on Friday, the carport started swaying dangerously back and forth which caused quite a scare.

So we had the SES arrive, only for them to realise that the carport couldn't be pulled down due to the powerpoint and lighting, so it was tied down to keep the roof on, anchored to a tree to stop it swaying, and taped off.

So with all the trucks parked in the street we got quite a bit of attention. But the SES were lovely and did a great job, and we are very fortunate they were able to come out and help. Now we just need to get the carport pulled down safely, and hopefully get a new one put up in its place.

And now to top it off, we have plumbing problems. The many joys of owning an old house!

Gearing Up

This past week wasn't one of my best, but I'm putting it behind me and getting ready to celebrate my birthday with a whole weekend of things planned, and if I can push it out to a week, I will. It's the very last time I'll get to celebrate turning twenty-something.

I've started off today with a lunch date, and I'll be doing dinner with my mum tonight, with a little shopping on the side. With the weather being less than pleasant, I'm also getting Hopscotch ready to be quilted; the backing is ready to go and basting will be next.

 I love this print.

Tomorrow will be pancakes for breakfast, then Sunday I'm having lunch with friends at the delightful Mama Baba. I love pasta so this place is perfect. All capped off with a family dinner on Monday; I was overseas for my birthday last year so I'm making up for it this time around.

What are you doing this weekend?

It's a Bit Like...

 ...this

 and these....

and a lot of this...

plus a little bit of these...

I thought I'd managed to make it through winter without getting sick, only to wake up on the very last day feeling like death. At least today's weather makes it worthwhile having a day off work.
